| Although
the general public knew "Ding" Darling during his lifetime
as an editorial cartoonist, his most significant and lasting
contributions were as a pioneering conservationist. Long before
words like ecology were in fashion, at a time when
citizens felt our resources were unlimited and that unhindered
use of those resources was a God-given right, "Ding"
wrote that careful use of the country's resources was necessary
to the future health and wealth of the nation. Throughout his
long career, he peppered the public with conservation cartoons
that drew people's attention to the pragmatic need for wise
resource use. |
